My experience from the team at South Molton has been 5 stars since becoming a customer a few years ago. However, the customer service from their head office has not even been bad, it has been non-existent. If I could have given them zero stars I would have done so gladly.
In October 2024 I ordered and paid £415.00 for a prescription pair of Oakley golf sunglasses. In November, December, and January I made enquiries about when my glasses would be ready by email, calling in, and phoning South Molton. I got the same answer that the matter was being dealt with by head office with no details given to South Molton by their head office when my order would be delivered. I was informed that Oakley would not deliver any more products to Byrnes & Byrnes until Oakley were paid. I did contact Oakley direct but they informed me that as I had ordered the glasses through opticians I had to pursue the matter through them.
Last month my patience ran out and I cancelled the order and asked for a complete refund which I received with an apology from the South Molton team.
The silence from their head office continues to this day. They just took my £415, it was held for 3 months, and then returned on cancellation. No contact, explanation, or apology from head office and certainly no expensive prescription sunglasses.

My wife and I went to Thornbury Armstrong & North Opticians to have our eyes tested. We were examined by Craig. It was lovely to feel that we had a very thorough examination by somebody who cared about our eyes as much as we do !! He was also extremely helpful and informative !! Thank you very much Craig.

My husband, James, was referred by the branch in Crediton and was seen very promptly for a follow-up to cataract operations. The place was spotless, staff very friendly and professional (running spot-on for time) and used state-of-the art equipment. The examination was easy and quick with a clear recommendation for a new prescription. Guidance in choosing a new frame was unbiased and helpful with no strong steer towards the more expensive end of the range. New glasses were available within 2 weeks and, now he has worn them for a few days, it is clear they are ideal. There is no doubt that he will continue to attend this branch of independent opticians.
